This week saw some incredible racing on fantastic trails during the inagural Singletrack 6 MTB stage race hosted by TransRockies Events. The 6 day stage race spanned trails across Western Canada with stages in Kananaskis, Nipika, Radium, Golden, and Revelstoke. Zone4's new offline server technology featured heavily throughout the race as the timing requirements include offline areas without cell service. "Being able to produce and share results easily across a local wifi network to the announcer, TVs, and connected personell all without having to rely on an internet connection is a great feature for us." says timing lead Yuri Lortscher "This race has a lot of unique challenges such as solo and 2 person team entries competing in both XC stages and individual based timed descent sections. Having to track both stage and multi-stage results and keep that information at the finger-tips of everyone on-site is a significant production challenge." said Zone4 development lead Kyle Schrama
Zone4's new server based technology includes the following goals:
Over the years athletes and spectators have come to depend on the live internet results Zone4 produced, but extending that concept and expanding on it's functionality in an offline environment has it's unique challenges. Building the hardware and software to support this is one of the many advancements Zone4 has been working on over the past 3 years. Premier events such as Singletrack 6 serve as a great chance to showcase these advancements and continue to improve and refine these concepts.
