and the Nova Scotia Provincial Team. You will also need to purchase a $15 Trail Pass.
This is an adventurous cross country ski experience!
Participants must either ski/snowshoe up the mountain OR ride the chair-lift up. Afterwards
you must ski or snowshoe down the mountain.
The alpine trail “Chickadee” is the recommended way up/down the mountain. If you are skiing up you should be off the run when the lifts start running at 9 (leave bottom by 8:15). There is a 3km
snowshoe trail
to the top that takes approximately 1hr.
This will be a fun, timed event.
Participants must be members of a Cross Country Canada club, or purchase a 1-day membership to Halifax Nordic for $15.
Register here to save time on Sunday. On-site registration will be available.
Check-in and pay with cash in the Lodge (by Ducky's bar) at 8:30-9:30am; get up the mountain and be ready to ski at 10:00.
The Freda Wales' Hut at the top has a wood-stove, benches and an out-house. Bring up everything you need to be comfortable for the duration (no easy ski back to your vehicle!) and be prepared to pack it back out.
Ski Wentworth's Rental Shop has skate-skis and snowshoes- go to the green roofed building at the base of the bunny hill - opens at 9am.
Weather Contingency
- Cancellations or changes will be announced via Halifax Nordic's FB page and via email to registrants. Ski Wentworth's big piston-bully groomer requires 20cm of snow to groom the nordic trails, so cancellation is very possible - that's why you register now and pay later!!

Who was Freda Wales?
Freda Wales moved to Nova Scotia from Quebec in 1947, and when the avid physical educator saw there were next to no ski facilities in the province, she set out to introduce the sport. She started the first ski school in the Wentworth Valley in 1952; helped establish Cape Smokey, and travelled throughout the province encouraging the development of cross country ski trails and organizing ski competitions. It is said she did more to promote and further both alpine and cross-country skiing in Nova Scotia than any other person. Freda Wales was inducted into the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame in 1985.
