A Virtually Awesome
Track and Field “Non-Meet” - June 12-13, 2020
Hey students! (And adults!) With the cancellation of local track and field events, the Yellowknife Multisport Club wanted to host a virtual event for all of you running and jumping enthusiasts! On Friday June 12 and Saturday June 13, we will have an online forum for all athletes (of any age) to enter your own 100m, 1000m and/or standing long jump results. Since this is a track and field “non-meet”, you can perform your non-events anywhere on June 12th and 13th! Measure out running distances using GPS, Strava, Google Earth, bicycle computers, really…whatever…and measure your jumping distances with a tape measure! Perform your jumps in a sandy or grassy area. You could even set up a neighbourhood route or long jump pit. You can even run or jump with your friends (from 2 m apart). Make sure kids have an adult timing and measuring the results. And please be honest. 😊
Results should be recorded to 2 decimal places:
Examples: 100m = 20.25 seconds
1000m = 6 minutes 30.32 seconds
Standing Long Jump = 1.26 m (measure in metres, not feet)
We are working on our online results platform, but in the meantime, get training! We have a list of warmups and workouts that you can mix and match over the next two weeks.
We will post updates, including Q&A, on facebook and www.ykmultisport.com as we get closer to the big day(s)!
