Race Details:

Þ Parking: Northgate Trails Parking Area. All vehicles will need to be parked by 9:30 AM prior to event staging. You will not be allowed to drive a vehicle in or out of the North Gate trails parking lot after 9:30 AM.

Þ Race Format: Road Race and Gran Fondo

Þ Race Categories: The races are open to men and women. Cat 1/2/3, Cat 4, Cat 5, and Gran Fondo. Transgender, Gender Fluid, and Non-Binary participants may choose whichever category makes them the most comfortable.

Þ Staging- 9:55 AM: Each category will be staged separately along the gravel road of North Gate Trails Parking lot that intersects Hwy #10. Please follow Commissaires instructions for your position in staging. Cat 1/2/3 men will go first. Cat 4 men and women second. Cat 5 men and women third, the Gran Fondo Long Course Participants fourth and the Gran Fondo Short Course participants will be fifth/last. Please listen and follow the Commissaires’ instructions for your event start. Each category will be released onto course in 2–4-minute staggered increments. Each Category is a separate event and will be timed and prized separately.

Þ Warm up: It is recommended that participants warm up/do their activation sets on the #10 Climb heading south through the North Gate of Riding Mountain National Park (RMNP). Prior to the start of races, marshals will not be on the course managing traffic. Extreme caution and awareness of vehicles and other riders must be practiced at all time and especially for turning around on course and returning to North Gate Trails for staging. Event participants MUST be present at course staging/instructions at 9:45 AM.

Þ Race Timing: Timing chips will be distributed at sign-in/registration table. This is the method by which your ride will be timed, therefore it is imperative that you affix (velcro) the timing chip to the fork of your bike for the duration of the ride. Failure to do so will result in no time being recorded. Please return the timing chip to the RED chip return bin located at the Hilton Trail Head at the conclusion of your event and before you return to the Northgate Trail head/North Gate parking lot.

Þ Feed Zone: (Cat 1/2/3 and Cat 4 Long Course athletes): Feed zone will be located at the long course turn around at RMNP South Gate entrance to park on the east side boulevard. “Soigneurs” (people in feed zone passing up bottles/nutrition to athletes riding by) will not be provided by race organizers. Feed zone support must be arranged independently by event participants. Soigneurs must be on the east side boulevard (left side of road of turn around) for hand ups to athletes. There will be volunteers working at the snack table at the Grand Fondo Long Course turn around on the west side boulevard. Event participants can stop, get off of their bike and feed themselves and fill their bottles from the snack table. Bathrooms will also be present at half way turnaround of the long course.

Þ Sign-in/Walk up Registration: Opens at 8:00 AM and closes at 9:15 AM at the parking area of Northgate Trailhead.

  • ALL participants need to sign in at the sign in/walk up registration table by 9:15 AM
  • Please arrive early to allow time for license check, distribution of road numbers and timing chip. Note: if you have MB road numbers issued in 2025, please use them and bring them with you to when you sign in.

Þ Road number placement: There should be a set of numbers to pin to your jersey and a number to affix to your seat post.

  • Placement of jersey numbers: one near the bottom of jersey to the RIGHT SIDE of centre, and one on the RIGHT SIDE of the torso turned so it’s almost parallel to the ground when in riding position.

How to pin your race numbers to your jersey

General Race Rules:

Þ All event participants must hold a current UCI/CCA racing license, Manitoba Provincial race license or a single event permit.

Þ The MB RACE license, UCI or single event permit (Gran Fondo only) must be purchased before the start of the event.

Þ   Riders are required to wear a hard-shell ANSI or SNELL approved helmet while racing, warming up, and cooling down.

Þ   Riders must wear close-toed shoes

Þ   Riders must use a drop bar bike which has front and rear brakes and the ability to shift gears.

Þ   NO E-BIKES ALLOWED.

Þ   Riders must be able to carry their own nutrition and water bottles with them on their bikes.

Þ   A waiver MUST be filled out and signed for each racer (online for online registration or if same day walk up registration a paper copy or online (QR code provided at sign in/walk up registration table)

Courtesy and Safety:

Þ   The race courses are open to the public at all times.

Þ   Signs will indicate that bike races are in progress, marshals do not have the authority to prevent people or vehicles from entering the course.

Þ   Ride within the designated route. Ensure you ride safely, in control. Cyclists deemed to be riding unsafely, discourteously, or recklessly will be removed.

Þ NEVER cross the centre line of the road . Event participants who are seen crossing the centre line will be subject to removal from the event and disqualification.

Þ   If you choose to stop while on course, signal to the riders behind and pull over safely as far as possible onto the right side of the shoulder/boulevard. Our support team (ride marshals, medical staff) may ask if you need assistance. Signal with a “thumbs-up” to indicate that you are okay.

Þ   Maintain control and speed of your bike, even when going downhill.

Þ   Be aware of others around you and communicate well in advance while cycling. Use gestures combined with verbal commands. Ride with your head up and look down the road rather than directly at the person in front of you. Verbally say, “passing on your left” when passing another person.

Þ   Know your limits. Crashes can occur when inexperienced riders lack the bike-handling skills necessary to make quick decisions in a pack.

Þ   Never overlap your wheels with another cyclist.

Þ   The use of aerobars and riding in the aero-position is prohibited.

Þ   Be courteous to all vehicles and pedestrians.

Þ   Do not use headphones, personal stereos, or cell phones while riding.

Þ   No outside support vehicles allowed along the course. Support vehicles and spectators are permitted only in designated areas. It is unsafe for spectators to stop at any other locations along the route.

Þ   Emergency vehicles ALWAYS have the right of way. Riders must give way to emergency vehicles by pulling over, stopping, and dismounting.

Þ   Always display your RACE number. All registered cyclists must wear their RACE number according to race instructions. Riders who fail to do so will not receive an official finish time.

Þ   All riders must obey traffic officers and course marshals. Disobeying instructions from these individuals will result in disqualification from the ride.

Þ   No littering on course. Riders must dispose of garbage in designated bins only. Riders caught littering will be disqualified from the event.

Þ   There will NOT be follow vehicles for each category. There will be one lead vehicle at the front of the event (Cat/1/2/3) and one follow vehicle will follow the last rider on the road regardless of their event or category.

Þ   Each event participant is responsible for their own flat changes or mechanical mishaps on course. There will not be a Neutral Service Vehicle for this event. Bring your own flat repair kit with you on the bike. If needed the final follow vehicle may be able to assist you.

No personal, team, or club follow vehicles are allowed on the race course

Award / Prizing:

Þ   Awards/Prizes will be distributed in the Northgate Trailhead parking lot upon the conclusion of the Road Race and Gran Fondo.

Þ   Provincial Road Championship medals will be awarded for top three female and male racers in each category.

Þ   Only residents of Manitoba are eligible to receive medals in the Provincial Championship. Non-residents who place in the top three will be acknowledged but will not receive a Manitoba Provincials medal.

Þ   The Manitoban Male Winner of the Cat 1/2/3 Road Race and the Manitoban Female Winner of the Cat 4 Road Race will each be presented with the Manitoba Provincial Champion Jersey representing the fastest male and female Manitoban road race athletes in the province of Manitoba. The two (2) Provincial Champion Jersey will be presented on the Male Cat 1/2/3 Road Race Podium and Female Cat 4 Road Race Podium. The Road Champion Jersey may be worn by the Manitoba Road Champion for one (1) year to all road events (including time trial and criteriums) both in Manitoba, Nationally and Internationally, until the 2026 Provincial Championships takes place.

Þ   Prizing for Gran Fondo riders will be awarded for top three female and male riders in both the short and long courses.

Þ   The organizer reserves the right to determine and modify prize distribution.

Þ   The Tour De Riding Mountain ( TDRM ) is an event with General Classification (GC). TDRM consists of three events: 1) Road Race, 2) Time Trial, and

3) Criterium. There will be a podium presentation for the athletes with the

best overall time for all three events for males and females in Cat 1/2/3, Cat

4, and Cat 5. GC podiums will take place at the end of the Criterium Race on Sunday, June 1. GC results will be posted on the event website within two hours of the completion each event.

Race course

Begin at Northgate Trailhead and Hwy 10. Head south through RMNP on Hwy 10. The short course turns around at Grayling Lake climb, while the long course continues south on Hwy 10, turns onto Northshore Drive, and then returns to Hwy 10. The long course turnaround is at the south gate of RMNP. Both courses finish at Hilton Trailhead parking entrance. Short course: ~60km. Long course: ~100km. After finishing, racers ride back to Northgate Trailhead. Water and snacks are available at the long course turnaround. Marshalls will be stationed at all intersections and turning points, direction arrows and signs will be placed at all turning points. Marshalls are there to facilitate safety, it is still the riders responsibility to know the course route and ride safely and in accordance with the highway safety act.

Þ Parking: Northgate Trails Parking Area: It is required for all vehicles to be parked by 8:30 AM prior to event staging. Vehicles will not be permitted in or out of the Northgate trails parking lot after 8:30 AM.

Þ Race Categories: Men and women, Cat 1/2/3, Cat 4, and Cat 5 . Transgender, Gender Fluid and Non-Binary participants may choose whichever category make them the most comfortable.

Þ Warm up: It is recommended that athletes warm up/do their activation sets on the #10 Climb heading south through the North Gate of Riding Mountain National Park. There will not be marshals on the course directing traffic at this time. Extreme caution and awareness of vehicles and other riders must be practiced for turning around on course and returning to North Gate Trails for staging. All event participants MUST be off course/finished warm up by 8:45 AM.

Þ Timing: Timing chips will be distributed at sign-in/registration. This is the method by which your ride will be timed, therefore it is imperative that you affix the timing chip to the fork of your bike for the duration of the ride. Failure to do so will result in no time being recorded. Please return the timing chip to the RED bin at the conclusion of your event at the Hilton Trail head before returning to the Northgate parking lot.

Þ Sign-in/Walk up Registration: Opens at 7:45 AM and closes at 8:30 AM at the parking area of Northgate Trailhead.

Þ Note : Please arrive early to allow time for road numbers pick up, if you have race numbers issue for 2025 please use them and bring them at sign in.

Þ   ALL riders must sign in at the sign in/walk up registration table by 8:30 PM.

Time Trial Start Time/Order:

Þ   Start time/order will be based on results of the 2025 Provincial Championship Road Race. For example, the athlete who came first in their category for the Road Race will be last to start the time trial. The athlete who finishes last in road race will be first to start time trial.

Þ   Start times list for Individual Time Trial will sent via email and posted on the MCA event website between 6 – 8 PM on May 31, 2025. A printed copy of start times will be posted at sign in / walk up registration on the morning of June 1, 2025. Racers will be started in 1-minute intervals. Racers must be seeded in line for their start time 15 minutes before their scheduled start time.

Þ All racers must hold a current UCI/CCA racing license, Manitoba Provincial race license or a single event permit.

Þ In line with Cycling Canada’s 2025 rule stating that Junior athletes and younger are not allowed to race on Time Trial Bicycles (TT bikes) for National time trial races, our provincial championships also do not allow Junior athletes and younger to race the TDRM Provincial Championship hill climb time trial on TT bikes. Non-juniors can use TT bikes but based on the course profile, it is not recommended.

Þ In an individual time trial bicycle race, passing is permitted, but drafting is not. The overtaken rider must fall back behind the faster rider, allowing them to pass without any assistance or sheltering. When passing the passing rider must pass the overtaken rider with at least 1 meter between each other. The overtaken rider cannot attempt to get into the slip stream to draft the passing rider. Drafting another athlete in the time trial will be grounds for disqualification from the event.

Þ The license or single event permit must be purchased before the event.

Þ   Riders are required to wear a hard-shell ANSI or SNELL approved helmet while racing, warming up, and cooling down.

Þ   Riders are required to wear closed toe shoes.

Þ   Riders must have a bicycle with drop bars, working front and rear brakes, and gears.

Þ   NO E-BIKES ALLOWED.

Þ   A waiver MUST be filled out and signed for each racer.

Time Trial Race course:

Beginning at Northgate Trailhead and Hwy 10. Head south on Hwy 10 into RMNP. The finish is Kippan’s Mill trailhead parking entrance on Hwy 10. The total distance is approximately 11km and has approximately 300m of climbing. After finishing and cooling down riders ride neutral north on Hwy 10 to return to Northgate Trailhead.

Þ   Single event permits are not allowed for criterium races. To race in the Dauphin City Criterium racers must have an MCA RACE license or UCI license. Non-MCA and MCA license holders that are interested in trying a Crit and learning more are encouraged to take part in the race clinic event that takes part before the main event, link below to find out more:

General Race Rules:

Þ Tech Zone/Racer Pit/Free laps : The tech zone (Racer Pit) will be located on the left-hand side of the course just beyond the race start/finish line. Pit support and free laps are only for racers who were involved in a crash, not caught behind one. An athlete who gets a flat tire is not eligible for mechanic pit support or a free lap. They must get to the pit and fix their flat tire themselves. Gord Dalling and a mechanic will be in the pit. Gord Dalling will determine who is eligible for a free lap or pit support. Free laps will not be awarded in the final 5 laps of the criterium. Furthermore, a rider granted a free lap must re-enter the race before the final three (3) laps; after the point any rider in the pit is losing ground on the field.

Criterium Race course:

The course is approximately 1 km per lap in counterclockwise direction. It will start on 2 nd d Avenue N.W & 1 st Street N.W. Racer will ride towards and then turn left onto 2 nd Street N.W , then turn left onto 1 st Ave N.W., then turn left onto Main Street, then turn left back onto 2 nd St. N.W. towards the lap/start/finish. The start and finish are located on 2 nd Avenue N.W @ 1 st Street N.W .
