Welcome to Casper and the Jacobson Memorial Nordic Ski Meet! This meet is in honor of Don Jacobson, and his faithful wife, Susan. The Wyoming Nordic community was Blessed to have them. Though these pioneers for WY High School Nordic skiing are now gone, their legacy lives on in each of you partaking in the sport that they Loved. You can bet that Don & Susan will be out there with you and your athletes in spirit this weekend as you carry on the tradition which they helped create so many years ago!
Venue: Casper Mountain Trails Center 9301 Casper Mountain Road
- Drive 5.4 mi. South of Wyoming Boulevard on Casper Mountain Road (WY 251)
- Take left at fork of Circle Drive and Micro Road. continue approximately 0.9 miles. Trails center is on the left.
Buses/Parking: For both days (and Thursday if arriving for course inspection) please park in the lower Skunk Hollow Parking lot as has been done in the past. Buses may unload in the upper lot, but please park in the lower lot. Any additional team vehicles and parents/spectators will need to be parked in the upper lot. No parking along the roadway will be permitted. There will also be overflow parking available at Beartrap meadow parking lot if needed.
For access to the stadium/race course your athletes may walk up the valley that goes by the skunk hollow restrooms towards the upper lot. You may ski up the parking lot hill Friday, but please use the trail to walk up on Saturday to access the stadium. PLEASE DO NOT WALK UP PARKING LOT HILL FRIDAY OR SATURDAY. THANK YOU!
The Casper Mountain Trails center will be open with men’s and women’s restrooms available, as well as a water fountain and bottle filling station. We welcome you and your athletes to enjoy the warm space, but please don’t use it as your team camp and leave your belongings in there.
Stadium: The Start/Finish Areas for Friday and Saturday will be located in front of our timing and storage buildings in the Nordic Stadium.
Wax Tents/Team Area: Feel free to set-up where you feel most comfortable. There are four electrical pedestals in the stadium, should you need power.
Waxing Protocol: Fluoro kick waxes are allowed in all WY HS/HP/USSS races. NO fluorinated glide waxes of any kind (Pure fluoro powders, liquids, blocks, sprays, etc.) are allowed in WY HS/HP Classical, Freestyle, and Sprint races.
Refreshments: Complimentary water and chocolate milk will be available for racers at the Finish Line. Lunch for coaches will be provided on Friday & Saturday.
Safety/Medical: There will be athletic trainers/medical personnel on site both days. An operator will be on standby with our Nordic Club Arctic Cat should athlete retrieval on course be required. There will also be AED's on site should the need arise.
Safety/Medical Plan: In the event of a natural disaster/road closure/safety issue: teams and coaches will be notified ASAP in order to keep all safe. As you are skiing along our trails there are 911-locate poles near all major intersections. In the event of an emergency locate the nearest pole and call 911 and mention the number located on the pole in order to help authorities locate you. For Friday and Saturday athletic trainers will be located in the stadium area. They will have radios, and their cell phones. Spotters will be out on course with radios and in the event of an injury will radio to the trainers who will then locate the injured and assess their needs. If required our Arctic Cat operator also with a radio will be on stand by for retrieval.

Race Entries: Matt Herr will be sending out entry sheets to you.
Timing: The timing for the race will be done by Matt Herr, and Nicol Kramer with the help of our army of volunteers, using our Summit Timing System and zone 4 platform. Race results will be posted on the kiosk outside of the timing building as soon as they are available. Race results will also be sent to coaches via email on the evening of the event.
Bibs: Bibs can be picked up at the timing building at 11:30AM Friday and 8:30 AM Saturday.
Protests: Protests are to be filed in writing with the competition coordinator within 30 minutes of unofficial results posting. At which point the jury will be notified. The jury will adjudicate all protests. Per the WHSAA handbook, the Jury will consist of 3 uninvolved coaches.
Race Course Maps: Maps will be posted on the kiosk outside of the timing building. Maps are also posted below.
Reminder: Coaches/athletes on skis are always to ski in the same direction as the race course. We appreciate your cooperation. Spectators, please avoid walking on the race course whenever possible. There will be off trails packed around the stadium area to prevent walking on the race course. Please help us in providing the best race track for all competitors.
Wyoming HS All State Points: The top 30 skiers, regardless of amount from each respective team receive All-State points. Ex. 1st place 30 points – 30th place 1 point.
Wyoming HS Team Scoring: Starting from 1st place (30 points) the first 5 skiers from each team are allowed to score points for their team. Team points then skip to the next team if all 5 skiers from a respective team have already scored. This format continues until the last point is received.
Awards: The top 5 Varsity Boys and Girls, and top 3 JV Boys and Girls will receive Awards for Friday and Saturday (top 10 will be recognized). Awards will be presented following the conclusion of each day’s races.

Friday, Feb. 6th Individual Start Classic
Start time: 1:00PM Varsity 7km (2 laps)
JV 7km (2 laps) - JV will race in their own category and receive awards Friday, but since we’re using this race as the qualifier for Saturday Sprints they will race the same distance as Varsity.

Course closes: 12:50PM
Warm-up area: Ski course in proper direction until 12:50 PM and the off trails of the maze/stadium area.

Saturday, Feb. 7th Freestyle Sprints Ladder 6 format
Start Time: 9:00AM – 1.4km
Bibs available at timing building: 8:30AM
National Anthem: 8:45AM
Course closes: 8:50AM
Warm-up area: Ski course in proper direction until 9:50 AM and the off trails of the maze/stadium area.
Race order: Specific times will be noted on start lists
9:00 AM Girls- Please still indicate Varsity or JV for awards purposes
Boys- Please still indicate Varsity or JV for awards purposes
Ladder 6 format
- Qualifier will be based off of results from Friday
- 4 rounds for each gender alternating, approximately 30 min. each round
- A new heat will start every 2 minutes, so skiers need to be very attentive to assigned heats
- If a skier misses the start of their heat, they are done
- Heats will not be timed. The top 2 athletes in each heat will move up to the next
heat. The middle placers will remain in that heat and the bottom two will move
down a heat.
- Results and next heat will be posted on results board located near the start area
and/or available with volunteers helping athletes line up.
- No open class for Saturday. Sorry, there's no equitable way to shuffle them into the HS field
