Cycle-Smart Alberta Cyclocross Camp

Cycle-Smart Cross Camp

Location: Argyll Velodrome

6850 88 Street, Edmonton, AB T6E 5H6

Saturday, August 18 -- Sunday, August 19, 9:00am-4:30pm

We have been running this camp since 2012 and it has grown and improved over the years, adding more groups, coaches, and graduates with increasingly successful palmares.

We continue to strive to run the best cyclocross camp we can.We are going to continue with the format that we built last year and hope to build on the success of each part of it. While we still think that Cross Camp is still best done over 2 days in order to dedicate enough time for each new skill, we realize that this doesn’t necessarily work for everyone. This year we will have a full camp option, a one day option on Saturday, and a Sunday afternoon “midweek” style race.

Registration closes Thursday, August 16, 11:45pm

Earlybird Deadline: Tuesday, July 31, 11:45pm

Registration cost: $325

Earlybird cost: $275

Saturday only: $225

Saturday only earlybird: $200

Sunday race only: $10

The full camp option is still our first choice. It is open to beginners and experts alike and we strongly believe that this is something that every cyclocross rider and racer will benefit from. Shawna Donaldson says, "I had been racing cyclocross for 4 years before going to my first Cycle-Smart Cross Camp and didn't think I could learn more. I ended up having my best season to date."

Saturday will consist of the majority of the core cyclocross skills. If you have been to camp before, you know how much you will benefit from this. If you have not been to camp, this is what makes the Cycle-Smart Cyclocross Camp what it is. You will receive hands-on instruction with a focus specifically on skills and technique that can only be demonstrated and taught in person. Skills covered will include mounting, dismounting, barriers, carrying, cornering, off-cambers, and starts. You will receive feedback and will be given the skills to practice on your own after camp.

Sunday will consist of more of the race day routine, prep, course evaluation, line selection, and tire pressure. We will spend the day getting ready for the race in the afternoon, like we would for any other race, but in much greater detail.

Sunday afternoon will be a “midweek” style race. This is open to anyone, not just camp participants. It is, of course, included in your registration if you register for any part of the camp. You will get a chance to put all the skills you have learned into practice! We are really excited to have this race as part of the camp this year. We are planning on having 4 self-selected categories and 2 separate starts.

You must be a member of an ABA club in order to participate in any part of the camp. If you aren’t currently a member of a club, you can easily join the Velocity Cycling Club.

We really enjoy putting this camp on and sharing our knowledge and experience and I think you will enjoy it too! We also make sure that we have good food throughout the weekend. If you have any allergies, please let us know and we will try to accommodate them.
