Cross Country Skiing Selection Criteria

The number of competitors to be selected to represent Team Regina at the Saskatchewan Winter Games in the cross country skiing event will be 6 Male and 6 Female

AGE CLASSIFICATION

There are two age-related categories within which age is determined as of December 31st 2021.

Junior category :

• Years of Age: 10, 11 and 12

• Year of Birth: 2009 to 2011

• 3 females and 3 males

*Currently the SWG is only open to the 12 and over that are fully vaccinated against Covid-19, however, we will proceed to race the 10 and 11-year-old in the Team Regina Trials in preparation for vaccine approval and roll out for the mentioned age group.

Senior category :

• Years of Age: 13, 14 and 15

• Year of Birth: 2006 to 2008

• 3 females and 3 males

CRITERIA

The selection of athletes for Team Regina will be achieved through a selection trial, to be held tentatively on December 5th at a time and location to be determined with a backup date of January 2nd . Registration will be done via zone4 only.

SELECTION RACES

Selection Race #1 -

Approx 5 km : classic technique for Senior Category interval start

Approx 3 km : classic technique for Junior Category interval start

Selection Race #2 -

Approx 800 m : skate technique for Senior Category interval start

Approx 400 m : skate technique for Junior Category interval start

RANKING OF ATHLETES

Finish times for both selection races will be combined and ranked. Top 3 Senior times for both male and female will be selected and the top 3 Junior times for both male and female will be selected

The intent is to have a full complement of competitors in each age category to complete the team. A Junior racer may be moved to the Senior age category, but an older competitor is not allowed to be moved down a category.
