Team Hardwood Membership and Program Registration 2018-19

Welcome to the Team Hardwood Membership and Program Registration

This process is to register athletes into our programs as well as to register other key participants (e.g. coaches, wax techs, board members) who contribute to our club and are required to be paid registered members of Southern Ontario District/,Cross Country Ontario/Cross Country Canada.

Please proceed to select the appropriate registration category for each person you are registering.

Sr. National Program

Program for post secondary athletes who are committed to racing and training year round with the ultimate goal of performing at their best at Canadian National Championships.

Program starts September 1, 2018 with training days Tues. Wed. Thurs. Sat. & Sunday in the fall and winter

These athletes will attend some O cup races, Noram races, Nationals, as well as select other races as determined by the coach.

Program overview

  • Early fall – winter program starts Sept. 1, 2018 with training Tues. Wed. Thurs. Sat. and Sunday
  • December -start training on snow Tues, Wed, Thurs. Sat. Sun & early season races – Canada Cup and Norams
  • January / February – Ontario Cups, Noram races, Easterns and World Jr Trials and Nationals, OUAC's
  • March – Nationals in Gatineau , Super Tour- Lake Placid

Program cost – $1615 + HST+ SOD,CCO,CCC fee of $19 + fall trail pass ($34 + HST) (for those not in Summer program) + winter trail pass at Hardwood Ski and Bike ($330 + HST)

Athletes will also incur all costs associated with travel and racing licence and  race fees on top of program fees.

National Program

Team Hardwood National Program forms the foundation of the Team Hardwood racing team, and is geared for athletes in gr. 9 and up, who wish to commit to year round training.

Our goal is to expose skiers to as many racing opportunities as possible in a year round program that builds; skills, endurance and familiarity with what it takes to be a full-time skier.

Program overview

  • Early fall – winter program starts Sept. 1, 2018 with training Tues. Wed. Thurs. Sat. and Sunday
  • December -start training on snow Tues, Wed. Thurs. Sat. Sun & early season races
  • January / February – Ontario Cups, Noram races, Easterns, OFSAA, and Nationals
  • March – Nationals in Gatineau

Program cost:  $1615 + HST +SOD, CCO, CCC fee of $19 +  fall trail pass $34 +HST (for those not in summer program) + discounted winter trail pass through Hardwood Ski and Bike of $330 + HST

Provincial Program

The Provincial program is focused on athletes in high school who want train for cross country skiing in a structured, competition-oriented group. The racing focus for this program is on local Ontario Cup and SOD Parrafin Cup and other local loppet and high school races. The training and technique instruction is designed to push athletes to achieve at a higher level of fitness and competency. The full value of the team is the consistent day to day relationship the skier develops with their coach and teammates.

Coaches will provide solid, consistent training and racing opportunities for motivated athletes while simultaneously fostering a lifelong love for an active, outdoor lifestyle.

The Provincial program will start September 15, 2018, and run until the second week of March.  Training days will be Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, & Saturday in the fall, with the addition of Sundays once on snow. Skiers in this program will be allowed to choose any three training sessions per week. There are a number of travel opportunities for provincial program athletes who are interested in racing the Ontario Cup level races, as well as attending local & regional races.

Junior Program

The Junior program is designed to motivate Grade 6 to Grade 8  (grade 5 on coaches assessment) athletes who consider Nordic skiing as their favourite winter sport. Skiers will learn skate and classic technique through coordination and agility drills, demonstrations and trail skiing adventures. Our staff is fully trained to work with a wide range of ability levels; we have progressions to fit your needs. Program content is age appropriate and FUN! The program will be led by Kim Getty with support from parent volunteers and Head Coach Jack Sasseville

  • program starting September 15, 2018 with orientation and 1 st training session
  • Two training days in the fall (Tuesday from 5-7 pm & Saturday from 9:30 to 12:30)
  • Three training days when skiing (Tuesday, Saturday & Sunday)
  • training between Christmas and New Year
  • Athletes will attend local and regional races
  • Race trips to Ontario Youth Championships at North Bay Nordic

Program cost:

  • $780 + HST  + SOD,CCO,CCC fee of $19, + discounted trail pass through Hardwood Ski & Bike
  • Fall Trail pass ($23 + HST) + WinterTrail pass  $109 + HST for ages 13 and under
  • Fall Trail Pass ($34 + HST) + Winter Trail pass  $330 + HST for over 13 yrs

Team Hardwood Trail Shredders

This is a racing program only for younger siblings of Team Hardwood athletes, and will be offered on Saturday mornings by Coach Kim Getty, with assistance from parent volunteers (see Parent Volunteer section) and support from Coach Jack Sasseville.

Learn to Train, learn to race and have lots of fun, with enhanced skill games and drills and extended trail exploration. This is an similar to HSB’s popular Trail Shredders program for those skiers looking to get into racing. It includes a fall training session and heading to some races with Team Hardwood, including waxing support at races.

Program cost:

  • $485 + HST + SOD,CCO,CCC fee of $19, + discounted trail pass through Hardwood Ski & Bike

  • Fall Trail pass ($23 + HST) + Winter Trail pass $109 + HST for ages 13 and under

  • Program start October 13, 2018; every Saturday until the snow falls, then 2 to 3 sessions per week when snow is available

The Coaches

Jack Sasseville - Head Coach

Jack is the Founding Head Coach of Team Hardwood in 1995 and coached the team until he took over the management of Hardwood Ski and Bike in 2008. Jack is an NCCP Level V coach who has been coaching for over 40 years, including 13 years with the National Ski Team. He is a former Alberta and Ontario Coach of the Year. He has coached national and international champions of all ages. His skiers have won over 300 medals at Canadian Championships.

Kim Getty

Kim is experienced in coaching children in Mountain biking and Nordic skiing. She has been assistant coach to the Junior team at Hardwood and coached elementary school race teams. She has NCCP Coach Initiation to Sport and Training for both cycling and nordic skiing. Kim has skied for many years completing several loppets, OCups and the Canada Ski Marathon. She is a professor at Georgian College and has coached many different sports in her teaching career. She loves kids, rock climbing, skiing, mountain biking and overall just having fun!

Athlete Coaches

Senior athletes are recruited to assist coaching and direction of the programme.  These athletes offer a high level of competency in the technical and performance aspects of the sport. They further serve as mature role models for younger skiers who are typically enthusiastic to connect with these successful members of Team Hardwood.

Parent Volunteers

Team Hardwood depends on parent volunteers to keep the program running smoothly. In order for athletes to get the most out of the coaches’ expertise in coaching, we expect parents to share responsibility for fundraising, trip planning, waxing and other functions as needed.
