Athabasca River Brigade Unattached Paddler 2017

Welcome to the 2017 Athabasca River Brigade Unattached Paddler/Crew Registration!

Each paddler that does not have an assigned/attached/designated Boat must complete this form. A list of Unattached Paddlers will be compiled and provided to Crew Leaders looking to fill vacant seats in their boats, at their discretion (they will contact you if you fit their selection criteria).  If you are a member of a crew that has no boat , please complete this form, indicating the name of your crew leader and boat in the appropriate fields. If you are attached to a boat already, you do NOT need to complete this form.

Please be advised that completion of this form does not, in any way, guarantee your participation in this brigade. If you are not contacted by a Crew Leader by the end of February 2017, and as we expect to have at least one boat dedicated to unattached paddlers, the Brigade Registrar will make every effort to find a seat for you on a "first come, first served" basis and you will be notified in either case.  Your flexibility and understanding are appreciated.

YOUNG PADDLERS POLICY: Paddlers under the age of 14 must have received explicit written permission of the Registrar and Event Chair.  Permission to participate will be based on evaluation of their previous paddling experience; and it is expected that a parent/guardian will be present in the boat with paddlers under the age of 12, and travelling with the brigade for paddlers between 12 and 14 years of age.  To request review of a young paddler and obtain permission to participate in the Brigade, please contact the Registrar, Carrie-Anne Guthrie, at caguthrie42@gmail.com .

Brigade Fees

Brigade Information

NOTE  (Please READ carefully):

  • For one to seven days you will be travelling, paddling 4-10 hours per day, coordinating and cooperating with a group of up to 150 people.  It is the individual paddler’s “ due diligence ” to understand whether he/she is suitably knowledgeable and has the abilities (physical, mental, emotional) to participate in this canoe expedition on the waterways indicated in the general plan. You are accountable for your decision to become a participant and your decision and participation directly affect the members of your crew, as well as the rest of the participants in the brigade.
  • The brigade paddling days require steady, continuous paddling. As part of your “due diligence” you need to be suitably healthy. You have a duty of care to assess your health honestly.  Fitness training is recommended as part of your preparations.  You will be asked to answer the five questions on the "PAR Q" form, and seek medical advice from your doctor for those questions to which you answered yes both when you complete this form and the 2017 CVBS Membership form.
  • If you have any medical conditions or allergies that we should be aware of, it is your responsibility to include that information with this registration.
  • Each participant is responsible for their own personal belongings. This includes items needed while paddling (rain gear, sunglasses, drinking water, life jacket, paddle, sunhat, etc.) and all other gear (tents, sleeping bags, camping, etc.). Personal medication should be with the participant at all times.
  • All crews will be informed in the final registration package update on the final schedule for social events planned and other amenities provided. Since this Brigade is part of Canada’s 150 th birthday celebration it is expected that there will be additional social events planned by the communities visited.
