Sunshine Coast Canoe Journey: Unattached Paddler Registration

Welcome to the Sunshine Coast Journey Unattached Paddler Registration!

Please complete this form for yourself, family members, or close friends that are interested in paddling in the Fort Edmonton Canoe Brigade, and at present have not joined a Crew.  A list of Unattached Paddlers will be compiled and provided to Crew Leaders looking to fill vacant seats in their boats, at their discretion (they will contact you to determine if you are a good match for their crew).

If you are attached to a Crew Leader/boat already, you do NOT need to complete this form.

Please be advised that completion of this form does not, in any way, guarantee your participation in this brigade.

If you are not contacted by a Crew Leader within one to three weeks, and we do expect to have one boat dedicated to unattached paddlers, the Brigade Registrar will make every effort to find a seat for you on a "first come, first served" basis and you will be notified in either case.  Your flexibility and understanding are much appreciated.

Brigade Fees

Actual Brigade fees will be payable to and collected by the Crew Leader, and paid to the Fort Edmonton Canoe Brigade at the time of registration of the boat and crew.  Should you be invited onto a Crew, you will have to complete and pay for a 2017 Canadian Voyageur Brigades Society (hereinafter referred to as "2017 CVBS") Annual Membership (also on zone4) and provide the membership (aka Cart Number) number to the Crew Leader for your registration in the brigade to proceed.  Brigade registrations of any sort will not be accepted without 2017 CVBS Membership Numbers.

Brigade Information

NOTE  (Please READ carefully):

  • For four to ten days you will be travelling, paddling 4-10 hours per day, coordinating and cooperating with a group of up to 150 people.  It is the individual paddler’s “ due diligence ” to understand whether he/she is suitably knowledgeable and has the abilities (physical, mental & emotional) to participate in this canoe expedition on the waterways indicated in the general plan. You are accountable for your decision to become a participant and your decision and participation directly affect the members of your crew, as well as the rest of the participants in the brigade.
  • The brigade paddling days require steady, continuous paddling. As part of your “due diligence” you need to be suitably healthy. You have a duty of care to assess your health honestly.  Fitness training is recommended as part of your preparations.  You will be asked to answer the questions on the "PAR Q" form, and seek medical advice from your doctor for those questions to which you answered yes both when you complete this form and the 2017 CVBS Membership form.
  • If you have any medical conditions that we should be aware of, it is your responsibility to include that information with this registration.
  • Each participant is responsible for their own personal belongings. This includes items needed while paddling (rain gear, sunglasses, drinking water, life jacket, paddle, sunhat, etc.) and all other gear (tents, sleeping bags, camping, etc.). Personal medication should be with the participant at all times.
  • All crews will be informed in the final registration package update on the final schedule for social events planned and other amenities provided. Since this Brigade is part of Canada’s 150 th birthday celebration it is expected that there will be additional social events planned by the communities visited.
