Team Hardwood Program Descriptions

Registrations include a full season's pass and entry into the Wednesday night race series

Trailblazers : 6-7 years old   ($505.00)

  • Follows guideline of Active Start phase of Cycling LTAD
  • Focus on young athletes new to cycling.

Key Objective - Developing Movement Literacy

Program Specifics :

  • Introduction to basics of cycling safety including bike and helmet fit.
  • Learning to handle the bike both on and off using fun games to develop skills.
  • Improve balance and introduction of spatial awareness and obstacle recognition.
  • Introduction to trail riding.
  • Meet each Wednesday from April 26 to Aug 30

Bronze : 8-9 years old    ($505.00)

  • Follows guidelines of FUNdamentals phase of Cycling LTAD.
  • Focus on basic cycling skills.

Key Objective - Developing Physical Literacy

Program Specifics :

  • Introduction to basic cycling skills including braking, cornering, climbing/descending.
  • Build speed, power and endurance through fun games.
  • Develop love of physical effort, riding trails and improving skills.
  • Introduction to citizen level, fun based racing.
  • Meet each Wednesday from April 26 to Aug 30

Bronze Race : 10-11 years old     ($675.00)

  • Follows guidelines of Learn to Train phase of Cycling LTAD.
  • Focus on skill and physical development.

Key Objective - Developing Skills

Program Specifics :

  • Continuation of skill development in progressively challenging situations.
  • Fun, skills focused rides lasting up to an hour in duration.
  • Develop basic race skills and knowledge using fun games.
  • Introduction of skills based goals for races.
  • Meet each Wednesday from April 22 to Aug 30. Also includes Ontario Cup pre-ride training and race day warm up.

Silver - 12-13 years old     ($735.00)

  • Follows guidelines of Learn to Train phase of Cycling LTAD.
  • Emphasis on “window of trainability” in speed and technical skills.

Key Objective - Becoming a Skills Champion

Program Specifics :

  • Working on technical skills including starts, passing, obstacles and jumping.
  • Developing leg speed of 100+ RPM through fund drills.
  • Riding 2-3 times per week with duration of 90 minutes.
  • Motivating athletes to perfect skills through repetition and fun drills.
  • Meet each Wednesday from April 22 to Aug 30. Also includes Ontario Cup pre-ride training and race day warm up.

Silver Race - 14-15 years old     ($825.00)

  • Follows guidelines of Train to Train phase of Cycling LTAD.
  • Emphasis on “building the engine” and increased physical literacy.

Key Objective - Becoming a Competition Focused Athlete

Program Specifics :

  • Developing self awareness and good training routines.
  • Focus on building aerobic power, speed and core strength.
  • Training 4-5 times a week increasing endurance rides to 2+ hours.
  • Assisting athletes on the road to becoming self sufficient and self directed in their training
  • Meet each Wednesday from April 22 to Aug 30. Also includes Ontario Cup pre-ride training and race day warm up.
