2017 Canmore Canada Day Float Contest
REGISTRATION DEADLINE: JUNE 24, 2017
Canada is turning 150. Gather your team, get creative and put together a float that will show us what you’ve got.
The theme is “Looking back, looking forward” .
What will the judges be looking for?
Thematic relevance, creative expression, creative effort and degree of decorating difficulty.
Ribbons will be awarded to:
- First Place Overall
- First Place Commercial/ Business
- First Place Non-Profit/ Youth Groups.
Everyone participating in the parade will need to sign a waiver. We will email it to you.

Parade line up is between 10 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Parade starts at 12 NOON
STAGING AREA: Canmore Recreation Centre Parking Lot. From there you will be directed to move into your line up area.
PARADE START LOCATION : Parade starts at the corner of 15 th Street and Fairholme Drive
Please Note: Volunteers will be on hand to assist you in moving from the parking & staging area at the Recreation Centre and Canmore Collegiate High School to your line up area.
The Canmore Recreation Centre and Lions Park will have washroom access for parade participants.
Rules and Regulations to ensure the safety of all entrants, spectators and livestock!
These rules apply to all entrants
- Your completed and signed Waiver Form signifies your ACCEPTANCE, on behalf of yourself and your group’s participants, of all Canmore Canada Day (CCD) Parade Rules and Regulations.
- The ultimate responsibility for safety lies with each individual entry group. All entrants must comply with all Canmore Canada Day Parade rules and regulations as well as comply with all government regulations, safety codes and manufacturer’s recommendations and similar standards necessary to safely operate floats and equipment.
- Canmore Canada Day Parade Officials can reject any entry on parade day that does not meet the regulations and parade organizers and/or parade marshals reserve the right to deny participation to parade entries deemed inappropriate for the Canmore Canada Day Parade.
- Parade Pace: All Entrants must be willing and sufficiently physically fit to maintain both the parade pace and no less than 3 metres of spacing between parade entrants. Entrants/groups unable or refusing to maintain parade walking pace and/or spacing (as CCD Parade officials direct) may be removed from the parade route.
- CCD Parade reserves the right to remove any entrant/group at any time whether as a result of safety concerns, interference with the parade’s progress or any other reason that parade officials deem appropriate.
- FOR SAFETY REASONS, All entrants/groups are prohibited from throwing any items (i.e. candy) along the parade route, before, during or at the conclusion of the CCD Parade.
- Money collection or solicitation along the parade route is strictly prohibited
- All decorative materials must be fire retardant and no flammable materials may be carried on the float, in vehicles or on people.
- All motorized floats must have a working and fully serviced dry chemical fire extinguisher. All fire extinguishers must be readily available to the driver/operator. Operators must be familiar with the proper operation of the fire extinguishers.
- All vehicles must be in good mechanical condition and properly serviced prior to the parade. Special attention must be paid to cooling systems, exhaust systems, brakes, steering and tires.
- Drivers and other people associated with all entries must have means of a RAPID escape in an emergency.
- Floats may be a maximum height to 15 feet from the ground and must be capable of clearing all obstacles.
- Float organizers are not permitted to have float riders on vehicle roofs or on roof racks.
- Float drivers require a clear 180 – degree field of vision to the front.
- All participants bringing their own property to be used in the parade (i.e. automobiles, horses, etc) must provide proof of insurance, as there will be no coverage afforded to them under this policy.
- Each float rider MUST have appropriate body support or seatbelts securely fastened to the float. In case of seat belts, the belts must be worn on the outside of the costume. In special cases, the parade coordinator may authorize the use of railings around the perimeter of the deck. This railing must be of solid construction with top and intermediate rails. The top rail must be a minimum of 36 inches above the deck.
- ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES, PROHIBITED DRUGS AND SMOKING ARE PROHIBITED. Participants whom CCD Parade Officials believe have consumed alcohol, are smoking or have consumed prohibited drugs prior to or during the parade will be removed from the parade.
