Ski for Steve Fun Sprints

Ski for Steve Fun Sprints

January 20, 2018  *  Brunello

Start the Season in the Spirit of Steve Moores

F un, fierce and for everyone! Every skier has the same chance to win.  It doesn’t matter how fast you are, just how you finish the race!

Everyone will ski a short course (<900m) to get a qualifying time. This qualifier round will be by an interval start (skiers start every 15 seconds, youngest to oldest).   After the qualifier everyone will be listed in order of their time.  There will then be heats with staggered starts based on your times:  the slowest skier in the heat will start xx seconds ahead of the next, depending on their qualifying time and so on. This will create an exciting finish as our fast ski racers will be on an equal footing with young beginners. The top 2 or 3 from each heat move on and the other 2 or 3 go to the B final round of heats from which you could be eliminated.  Everyone will ski at least 3 times and could potentially ski 5 or 6 times.

Prizes will be awarded to the top qualifying time in each age category and the top 3 of the A and B final.  The total event with heats through to the finals will take 2-3 hours depending on how many people participate. There will be food, hot and cold drinks and many prizes.

Children must be 8 years old as of Jan 1st, 2018 to participate.

Schedule :

1230 – Race course opens

1230-1330 – Pick up your bib in the Brunello Links club-house

1345 – Brief participant meeting at the race-course.

1350 – Course closes. You can keep skiing anywhere other than on the course

1400 – Qualifier interval starts – line up youngest to oldest; start 15 seconds apart.

1430 – Qualifying times posted; heats proceed. Food and refreshments available in Clubhouse.

Halifax Nordic Ski Club may postpone or cancel the event due to poor snow or trail conditions. Refunds will be mailed out, less a $5 administration fee.
