BICISPORT Calgary Cycling Club

The BICISPORT Calgary Cycling Club, was originally founded by a small group of cycling enthusiasts known as the Spokes Racing Team in 1988. In 1992, the name was changed to “Bicisport Calgary Cycling Club”. The name comes from the Italian word for bicycle, bicicaletta, and loosely translates to mean "bikesport." We initially began as a road racing club and evolved to become one of the top racing clubs in Alberta, strongly representing the disciplines of road, mountain biking, track racing and Cyclocross. We have had a number of National Team and International-calibre athletes begin their cycling careers as members of Bicisport, and we confidently expect there will be many more to follow. Bicisport is dedicated to promoting both a healthy lifestyle, and to supporting and promoting all levels of bicycle racing. We are particularly supportive of both Paralympic and Junior athletes, and at the same time are keen to help all of our members reach their full potential. By signing up online you are agreeing to adhere to club guidelines including those specific to volunteering. Collection of the following personal information is for the sole purpose of the operation of BICISPORT. A list of the member names will be forwarded to the ABA. This information will otherwise not be provided to any third-party without prior consent of the member. The names of Bicisport members will also be shared with Ridley's Cycle in order to receive special discount pricing.

What BICISPORT Is Looking For

BICISPORT wishes to recruit members who are not only dedicated, competitive athletes, but individuals who are also willing to put something back into their club. In short, we feel it is important for our members to volunteer when called upon, and effectively earn the privilege of reaping the benefits their membership. We want members who are willing to assist with the planning, and execution of race events, who take part in club activities, and most importantly make themselves available to help out with our annual AGLC Casino fundraiser. Another strong element of our membership profile is the desire to focus on the recruitment of both junior and paralympic athletes, and to provide guidance, assistance and support in their development as competitive cyclists. We want BICISPORT to be their springboard to Provincial, National and International caliber competition. This concept is strongly supported by the Alberta Gaming & Liquor Commission (AGLC) whose policy it is to allocate a minimum of 50% of their funding to this initiative. Finally, we aim to create a club culture where members will support one another, compete strongly and with good sportsmanship, and ultimately wear our club colours with pride.
