We are excited to be hosting you on the traditional territories of Smith Landing First Nation, who now maintain this historic trail that is also part of Canada's Great Trail Network. Started in 1973 this is the oldest loppet in Western Canada, and is set on a historic portage trail that bypasses the four sets of unnavigable rapids on the Slave River at the Alberta-NWT border.

COVID-19 Protocols:

The Thebacha Loppet will be maintaining procedures to limit risk of COVID. This year participation in the Thebacha Loppet is limited to residents of the NWT and Smith Landing First Nation, and skiers will be restricted to the Loppet trail. There will be additional COVID-19 protocols in place before, during and after the Loppet to limit gathering sizes and comply with Protect NWT Phase 2 protocols. For example all participants will be required to wear masks during the bus rides and face-coverings at checkpoints. Additional information will be provided to participants during bib pick up. Thank you for your support.

Full Thebacha Loppet (27.6km or 18km) (Next year!)

Halfway Thebacha Loppet (10.3km) Adult: $25

Mountain Portage - Ski Club Loppet (5km) Adult $25

Youth under 18 years (any distance): $10

College/University Student (any distance): $15

Deadline for registration: Thursday, March 31st @ 11PM

BUS LEAVES @ 10:30 AM

Safety overview for all skiers occurs just before bus leaves @ 10:15AM

Skiers arriving late cannot be transported to drop-off zones.

Distance Ski Options:

Fort Fitz --> Goose Island 9.6km (not for this loppet)

Goose Island --> Pelican Halfway 7.7km (not for this loppet)

Pelican Halfway Checkpoint --> Mountain 5.3km

Mountain Checkpoint --> Nordic Centre (finish) 5km

Total - approx. 27.6KM

For this loppet - one checkpoint @ Mountain with drinks/food :)

At any time, a skier can exit the loppet at a designated check-point.

What to bring: Please be prepared!!

Skiers are advised to dress appropriately for the weather, using multiple clothing layers, and also bring water, snacks and extra wax with them while skiing. Note that checkpoints will have beverages and light snacks available. Clothing layers can be left at the check-points, and we will do our best to ensure that your belongings make it back to the Nordic Centre.

ANNUAL LOPPET EVENING

Thebacha Loppet participants wanting to socialize, eat, and win fun door prizes are invited for an evening with their fellow skiers. Food and drinks will be available to purchase at the local pub where the event will be hosted; minors are allowed for the private rental.

Location: Dirty O'Fergies Pub @ 6:00PM

Light dinner @ 6:30PM

Minors allowed :) - Prizes to be won!
