POSTPONED UNTIL APRIL 9/10

The Race committee has decided to POSTPONE the NWT Territorial Championships until April 9/10, due to the temperature forecast for this weekend, as of Tuesday, March 8.

As stated in the race notice:

Weather & Cancellation Policy: As per

Nordiq Canada racing rules, the racing

cut off temperatures will be -15oC for

under 12 years (U12) and -20oC for other

age categories.

The committee consulted the race jury and concluded that postponing to a later date is preferable to the probable cancellation of all U12 and younger categories on Saturday (the majority of registrants), and ALL categories on Sunday. The decision was made 4 days in advance so that alternate activities and travel arrangements for out of town guests can be made for participants and volunteers.

It will be a nice weekend for skiing, but not for racing. Enjoy the sun!

IF you already registered before the races were postponed, you will automatically be registered for the new dates.

When you enter your birth date, the form will automatically indicate the correct categories for that individual.

Specific bib pick-up and race times will be sent to you via email by Friday, April 8.

The Yellowknife Ski Club is excited to host the 2022 Territorial Cross Country Ski Championships for all skiers across the north. This is a family event, with categories for all ages. Anyone is eligible to enter.

Everyone must adhere to the COVID-19 protocols set out by the Chief Public Health Officer and the Yellowknife Ski Club Covid-19 Exposure Plan . Some key points are:

• If you are sick stay home!
• Participants over 12 must be vaccinated
• Plan to be outside
• Bring your own drinks and snacks
• $5 per race! (U8 race for free)
• Register by Wednesday, April 6, 2022 on zone4.ca

Registration:

All participants must register for the event at zone4.ca before Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at midnight. Race fee is $5 per race. Under 8 years of age are free. Late entries cannot be accepted.

Eligibility:

Anyone with a pair of skis. All ages and abilities are welcomed and encouraged to participate!

Course:

The races routes will follow the 1 km, and 2.5 km loops at the Yellowknife ski club. The U6 race routes will occur in the ski club stadium. Maps of the routes will be posted at the ski club on the day of the events. The marked routes can be skied prior to 1pm on race day.

Results & Awards:

Race results will be posted on zone 4 and at the ski club following the races. Gold, Silver & Bronze medals will be awarded to U12, U14, U16, U18 & Masters categories only.

Medal Ceremony:

Will occur following the races.

Waxing Facilities:

Come ready to ski! Wax facilities at the chalet are available 24 hours a day. Please prepare your equipment in advance. Due to Covid-19 restrictions the chalet wax room will be very limited to wax skis immediately before races. Wax forms will be available outside on the day of the races.

Refreshments :

Bring your own snacks and beverages. Each participant will receive a cookie medal and drink voucher at the end of their races.

Weather & Cancellation Policy: As per Nordiq Canada racing rules, the racing cut off temperatures will be -15ºC for under 12 years (U12) and -20ºC for other age categories. The ‘event jury’ will monitor the weather forecast and will announce via email on the day of the event by 1pm if races will be cancelled.  In case of cancellation, participants are encouraged to go for a recreational ski. No refunds will be issued.
