VOLUNTEER REGISTRATION

Proudly hosted by

We have a number of volunteering requirements in order to run a safe and fair event. Please note the following:

  • Prior experience is not required , however, if you have special skills, please let us know (prior timing experience, controlling experience, first aid, etc).
  • Come dressed to be outside -- most volunteer opportunities are outside – the event will run unless it is colder than -25C!
  • Volunteering shifts will take place between 9am and 6pm, and will vary depending on your specific role (for example, Race Office/Bib Management volunteers are needed ~8:45-11:45am and 1-4pm; Aid Station volunteers are needed for different shifts between ~9am and 5pm; Timing: Start volunteers are needed from ~10am to 1pm. But there is some flexibility and firm times will be confirmed by Thursday, February 29, 2024.
  • Volunteers receive a free meal and drink at the Post-race Gathering.

Brief overview of major duties:

  • Race Office/Bib Management : You will work with the Race Secretary to hand out bibs to participants in advance of the event at the WCCSC waxroom; collect bibs at the finish line; and post hardcopy results in the WCCSC.
  • Aid Station Volunteers – You will be stationed at one of the three Aid Stations on the race course (Fraser Loop, Copper Haul Road, Crossroads) to hand out food and drinks, collect clothing and check on participants ( Racer Support ); record bib numbers to ensure participants take the correct course ( Controller ); or provide access and control of the public when intersecting with the race course and participants ( Marshal ). NOTE: All gear/equipment will be transported to Aid Stations by snowmobile. Transport for volunteers will be provided by snowmobile to Fraser Loop aid station. Volunteers will ski to Copper Haul Road and Crossroads aid stations.
  • Timing: You will provide support to ensure accurate results for the event. Some timing volunteers will set up and use technology to record start/split/finish information ( Set-up/Results volunteers ). Others will do non-technical roles: Start volunteers will hand out timing chips as participants load on buses and/or start the race with the start horn. Finish volunteers will collect timing chips at the finish line.
  • Post-Race Gathering: You will help with set-up for the Post-Race Gathering in the 11th End Lounge (set up tables, put out food and drinks, test sound system, hand out drink tickets, organize prizes) and help clean-up afterwards.
