CrossTastic 2024

Date: Sunday October 20, 2024

Location: Whittier Park - 836 Rue St. Joseph

Volunteers required for course marshals. Marshals will receive additional entries in the LBS prize giveaway below. Please contact Gary at gsewell@mts.net

Racers may use a mountain bike. However, as non-compliant equipment please make sure you read and understand the equipment regulations below.

Before coming out to the race make sure to check the CrossTastic blog for last minute updates.

We are guests of the city. Please treat the area and other park users with respect. The washrooms are for use of the toilet and washing your hands, not for cleaning dirty equipment or clothing.

Leaving a mess jeopar dizes our future use of the park. Anyone who does so will be disqualified without refund.

If the weather is wet please don't ride our course in the days after the race. Leaving muddy ruts jeopardizes our future use of the park.

We are pleased to announce that in true CrossTastic fashion we will once again be offering free European hot dogs and hot chocolate for racers and spectators alike.

Technical Requirements:

For all racers:

·      Cyclocross has specific rules pertaining to bike equipment. We have traditionally allowed the use of mountain bikes to allow participation. However, as mountain bikes may create an unfair advantage, in final finish placings riders using a mountain bike will be place behind riders using the proper equipment.

·      A safe bicycle in good working order is required. The Commissaires at their discretion may exclude any bike that is deemed unsafe - no refund will be given.

·      A CSA approved cycling helmet must be worn at all times while on the course.

·      A racer is not allowed to wear a uniform of a trade team that they are not a member of.

·      Riders may not take any kind of aid (mechanical, nutritional, or otherwise) from anyone else anywhere on the course except in the pit.

·      In the event of a mechanical a rider may not backtrack and must proceed in the direction of the race course (and must not cut part of the race course) until they reach the pit. This means if they are even just past the pit they must proceed in the race direction until they reach the pit again. Within the pit riders may double back.

·      ends of bars must be plugged

·      bar ends are not allowed

Additional requirements for kids fun race

·      may use a mountain bike, cyclocross bike, or road bike

·      if using straight bars, ends of bars must be plugged

·      if using straight bars, bar ends are not allowed

Assembly and Seeding:

Riders will assemble 10 minutes before the scheduled race start and will be seeded according to race officials. The race course with location of the race start will be posted on the CrossTastic blog the night prior to the race.

Medal Presentations:

Medal presentations will take place after conclusion of the last race and after most of the course has been torn down. In a rush? It goes much quicker when everyone chips in.

Course Tear Down:

Course tear down will take place immediately after conclusion of the last race. It's a cross tradition for racers and spectators to help with tear down. It's part of the community.

Volunteers:

Cyclocross races require a tremendous number of volunteers. Without volunteers these races can't happen. We require volunteers to work as course marshals for 1 race shifts shifts. If there's a family member or friend you need to watch race, we'll work around it. If you can help please contact Gary at gsewell at mts dot net.

Raceday Preparation:

You are responsible for your own preparation. Water, energy drinks, gels, etc. will not be provided.

Parking:

There is ample parking. Please do not park on the road within the park.
