XC Ottawa Fall & Winter Training Programs
IMPORTANT:
- Program participants are required for having a current membership with an affiliated Nordiq Canada club.
Note:
- 2024-25 Nordiq Canada membership is good until June 30, 2025. You need to renew your membership by July 1, 2025. XC Ottawa Nordiq Canada registration for 2025-26 https://zone4.ca/register.asp?id=38975
- You may also join another Nordiq Canada Club as your home club (e.g., Team Hardwood). You only need to pay the Nordiq Canada membership once. (The Carleton University Nordiq Canada registration page will be available soon.)
- XC Ottawa Club Membership Fees are paid by e-transfer to xcottawaski@gmail.com . The 2025-26 Fees are:
- Full $50
- Student and Partial Employed $30
- Recent University & College Grads (2024 and 2025) $30
Program Information
This program offers coaching and group training with XC Ottawa. There are two components:
- A Team Training Plan, which is emailed weekly.
- An Ottawa-Gatineau-based Training Group that meets twice weekly.
Registration for these two components is separate, so you can customize the program to fit your circumstances. For example, if you do not live in Ottawa-Gatineau, you can register for the Team Training Plan, or if you are only looking for group practices, you can register for the Training Group.
Note:
- XC Ottawa is an associated ski club with the Carleton University Ski Team.
- Kevin Shields will coach XC Ottawa programs. Kevin is the Head Coach of the Carleton University Ski Team and lead coach for The First Lap Coaching.

XC Ottawa Fall & Winter Program Options
The XC Ottawa Spring and Summer program has two components:
A) a Team Training Plan and
B) An Ottawa-Gatineau Training Group.
A. Team Training Plan:
The team training plan will be emailed to registrants on Sunday each week. The weekly plan will provide a daily schedule, descriptions for workouts—including the purpose of the workout, components of fitness and quality of movement/performance. The plans will offer options for the mode of training and ranges for workout times or distances.
Further, people can send me questions or comments about the plan for clarification or for customizing the training plan for their summer training context.
For people training remotely, I would also like to pilot a monthly small group virtual meeting. These could be a small group of two to three people or a medium-sized group of four to six people.
Fees
Team Training Plan: September to March
Full: $150
Discounted: $115
(The d iscounted Rate is for students, recent grads (2025 and 2025), and partially employed.)
B. Ottawa-Gatineau Training Group:
During the fall and winter, there will be two group practices per week. The typical schedule will be one weekday evening practice and one weekend morning practice.
- Wednesday evening, 6:00 to 7:45.
- Saturday morning, 8:00 to 10:00 am.
Optional Practices with varsity team:
- Tuesday morning, 7:30 to 9:15 am. (Fall in Ottawa, Winter in Gatineau)
- Thursday morning, 7:30 to 9:15 am. (Fall in Ottawa, Winter in Gatineau)
Notes:
- Fall practicess will include running (~50%), ski striding (10%) and roller skiing (40%).
- For people who will only join roller ski practices or attend occasional practices, there is a 50% discount code. Enter "HalfOff"—no spaces—in the discount field.
Fees
Ottawa-Gatineau Training Group : September to March
Full: $50 per month
Discounted: $35 per month
Half Off Full: $25 per month
Half Off Discounted: $17.50 per month
Guests: Free (However, a sign-up and waiver are requested.)
Discounted Rate is for students, recent grads (2025 and 2025), and partially employed.
The Discount Code can be used if you will only attend 3 to 5 practices per month. This may be due to vacation or other situations.
Guest Pass: Free (Please complete online registration and waiver. This can be used to join up to two group practices.)
