The Ides of Marge is an event based on the popular Backyard Ultra running events. A Backyard Ultra is a unique ultra marathon where participants run the same loop every hour, on the hour, and are eliminated if they cannot make it back before the next lap starts. The winner is the last person standing, so the event can last for an extended period.

Our twist is that we will be doing this on bikes.

We have designed a challenging 15km loop to test a riders endurance, bike handling, and energy conservation. A gravel bike, hardtail, or full-suspension MTB will be the best options for completing the course. Speed only matters to the extent that you finish the loop before the one-hour cutoff and are ready to start the next loop on time. After participants finish each loop (or “yard” as it’s called in a backyard ultra) they may rest, eat, refuel, cry—the options are endless. Participants must simply be at the starting line ready to ride every hour on the hour until only one rider is left.

It will be limited to 75 participants in our first year, so don’t delay!
