2026 LSSD District Summer Camp

August 21-23, 2026

Overview:

This camp is targeted towards U14 to U18 aged athletes who want to have fun, train hard, work with other athletes from within and outside the district and to work on their skills with qualified and experienced coaches. Older athletes are welcome and encouraged to attend; however the developmental focus of the workouts will be on the U14-U18 categories. If any younger athletes wish to attend, please contact Conor McGovern (lssdchair@gmail.com), so we can ensure a positive experience.

Our objective is to unite skiers from across the LSSD district and provide a fun and positive weekend of training and to provide a development opportunity for young coaches in the district.

Dates:   Friday, August 21 to Sunday, August 23, 2026

Location:   Various locations in and around Thunder Bay Ontario

Cost:   $100

Cost includes: all training sessions; BBQ dinner @ Kamview Nordic Center on August 22nd

Cost does not include: meals other than Saturday dinner; Sleeping Giant Provincial park day pass ($18 per vehicle, free passes are available from the Thunder Bay Public Library)

Tentative Schedule:

Friday, August 21:

9:00-11:30: Classic rollerski with technique focus @ Mackenzie Inn

12:00: Picnic lunch and swim @ Mackenzie Point conservation area

15:30-17:00: Run and core, followed by low organized games (beach volleyball, spikeball etc.) @ Lakehead University fieldhouse

19:00: Optional social activity: bouldering @ Rock Room climbing gym (parents welcome to join)

Saturday, August 22:

9:00-11:00: Skate rollerski intensity @ Kamview Nordic Center

11:00-13:00: Lunch @ Kamview Nordic Center

13:00-14:00: Post lunch learning session

14:30-16:00: Run and games @ Kamview Nordic Center

16:30: BBQ Dinner @ Kamview Nordic Center

Sunday, August 23:

8:30-12:00: Run the giant @ South Kabeyun Trailhead, Sleeping Giant Provincial Park

12:00: Post run potluck style lunch and swim; camp wrap up @ Marie Louise Lake, Sleeping Giant Provincial Park

We will send out more information to registrants prior to the camp. We will also ask local families for contributions to a potluck style lunch on Sunday, August 23 ^rd .
