Biathlon Ontario invites coaches, club leaders, and program volunteers to Part 2 of the Para-Biathlon Webinar Series, Supporting a Para-Athlete in Training.
This 45-minute virtual session will be facilitated by Jacqueline Akerman, Nordiq Canada Associate Head Coach of the Para National Ski Team. Drawing on her experience working with para-athletes, Jacqueline will provide practical guidance for coaches and clubs looking to support para-athletes within their existing biathlon training programs.
The session will explore understanding the individual athlete and their training needs, adapting regular biathlon training sessions, training periodization and managing training load, and integrating skiing, shooting, strength, recovery, and combination training. Discussion will also address building athlete independence, effective coach-athlete communication, and preparing coaches, facilities, equipment, and volunteers to support para-athletes.
Jacqueline will share practical examples from her experience working with para-athletes, giving participants approaches they can apply within their own club environments. The webinar is intended for biathlon and Nordic coaches, club leaders, and volunteers interested in developing their capacity to support para-athletes in training.
